Starting a few days ago, inconsistently and a few seconds after browsing the Ynet home page, my browser would be redirected to another site where I received a warning dialog that implied my system could be infected with spyware or adware or something along those lines.

I immediately recognized it as a phony and a lure for rogue antispyware software, but there was little I could do. Unless you close out the browser in Task Manager it insists on going into a fake "scan" of the system and downloading a program which my Kaspersky Antivirus detected as "not-virus.Hoax.Win32.Renos.kd". The scan results in another scary dialog box that says my system is full of malware (shudder!).

The point of this ruse is to sell me malware masquerading as anti-malware. This is an old story, although an all-too-common one and one readers need to watch out for. And Suddenly Some Strange Site Is Offering You Malware - Security Watch
